Purpose Statement: To explore the story of Hagar’s struggles and blessings and how they shape our understanding of God

In what ways were Sarai’s and Hagar’s situations similar to women trying to make their way in life in the ancient Near East?  In what ways were they different?

Have you experienced a time when you lost hope and wanted to give up?  Can you think of times when you experienced God’s grace pursuing you and restoring you?

What do Rebekah’s words and actions suggest about her character?  Can you think of times when you extended hospitality to a stranger that led you to greater faithfulness to Go’d will?

When we reflect on the spiritual impact of those who have gone before us in faith, how might we learn from their positive and negative examples?
