What can Advent teach you about endurance and persistence?
What will you do this Advent to “remain well established and rooted in faith”? What will you do to prepare for the coming of the Lord?

December 8 – Called to Love; Second Sunday of Advent
Focal Passage: Matthew 22:34-40
Background Text: Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Purpose Statement: To make loving God and neighbor our top priority
Are you going on toward perfection?
How wide is your circle of love? Who is included? Who stands on the outside?
How will you make love tangible this week?

December 15 – Filled With Joy; Third Sunday of Advent
Focal Passage: Luke 1:46-55
Background Text: 2 Peter 1:21
Purpose Statement: To proclaim joy in the midst of darkness
How do we claim joy in our darkest times? What happens when light breaks through?
Who are the people around you in a season of lament? What do they most need? How can you respond in ways that show mercy and offer joy?

December 22 – The Word of God; Fourth Sunday of Advent
Focal Passage: John 1:1-18
Background Text: Isaiah 9:6-7
Purpose Statement: To praise Jesus as the Prince of Peace
What is more important to you: being right or pursuing peace? When have you ended an argument or disagreement for the sake of peace?
Into what situation or relationship do you need the light of Christ to shine and pave the path to peace?
December 29 – Salvation for Everyone
Focal Passage: Luke 2:25-35
Background Text: Acts 10
Purpose Statement: To find fulfillment in the birth of our Savior
What do you see when you look at Jesus as a baby? What does his birth tell you about God?
When did you first understand God’s immeasurable love for you? What led you to realize that God has done something for us in Jesus that we cannot do for ourselves?
Whom do you know who is struggling during this season? How can you extend to them the light of Christ in a way that will renew their faith?
